Win the Day: Personal Reflection

The other day when I was watching one of my favorite YouTube series, I realized how much the show was truly meant for me. GIANTS is about 3 friends and their journeys through life in their late 20s/early 30s. As long as I’ve been following the show from before it even aired, I knew it was something special about it. I have decided to go back and watch each episode and share the things that spoke to me and connected with my life journey and me.

The title to the first episode was WIN THE DAY. Lately, I have felt like I am on a seesaw in life. One day I’m up and the next day I’m going down but not ALL the way down. I will have a day where I am truly in the zone with God and achieving things I never thought I could achieve. Then, the next day when all the pressures of life just seem to cave in on me. Even though I do my devotions every day I still get hit with the same kind of rut. I wonder if it has to be due to the fact that I don’t do my devotions with my whole heart and sometimes I am just doing them out of obligation. That could be a factor into why I can’t seem to win more than just the day.

In the first episode it introduced us to Malachi, who was having a dream about being chased. Later on in the episode we were shown several dream catchers. Dream catchers were originally intended to protect young children from evil influences. I think the modern understanding that I remember of them from Kindergarten is that the web part of a dream catcher keeps the bad dreams in the web and the feathers connected to the bottom let the good dreams come to us. Lately, I have been having some scary dreams that I would prefer to not have had in the first place. However, I definitely think I just may need a dream catcher.

This first episode reflected another part of me that I needed to be reaffirmed of. Speaking up about matters when you see something is unjust. One of the scripture applications, to a verse I was reading about recently, talked about how we need to be more like Jesus and speak up against things that are not pleasing to God, and not so much on the small things that aren’t pleasing to us as people. A lot of times people misinterpret God’s word for their personal or community’s gain, but we have to speak up when it impacts God’s people. There is no good in having a voice if you aren’t going to put it to use.

Society has come to make people feel as though, there is only one way to live life and that is to get a good education, get a good job and have a good life. The reality of that is everyone can’t work like that. For some people living in the box other people want you in is ok for them, but for others it is not. To those people having a set routine and living life with not purpose truly does suffocate them and make them not want to press on. Living life to someone else’s standards is a trigger to unhappiness.

At the end of the day, this pilot episode wanted us to understand that we all have to live our lives fully and not worried about what other people think about how we choose to live our lives. They can never walk in our shoes or our path for us, so they need to respectfully stay in their own lane and win the day for themselves and give us another day to try to WIN THE DAY.
